The Hat Workshop

A workshop for organizations and companies

How to identify your role at each meeting and to and direct it it towards your goals
We were duped.
We were taught that what is important in a presentation is to speak loudly, move around the room from side to side and make sure to look everyone in the eye. This is not true. The important thing in a presentation is actually the ability to tell a story. It is the ability to take a lot of data, figures and messages and pack them into a sharp, clear and interesting story. In an age where a good idea can change a life or a career, the ability to tell it well to a boss, an investor, a client or the board of directors is a critical skill for success in life.

The Hat Workshop

You won't believe it, but from the moment you walk into a meeting, you have already determined how it’s going to go. This begs the question – will you be able to navigate the meeting so that it follows your goals? And the answer is yes, if you learn how to recognize who you are in the room – you can beat anyone in the meeting.

Who is it right for?

The workshop is suitable for any organization that understands that we don’t enter every conference room, presentation, or Zoom meeting in the same role and that success does not end only with the content, but is also influenced by the mindset with which we step into the room.

At Leave a Mark, we call this internal starting point a hat, because we believe there is some imaginary hat we wear when we come into a room and it changes our interaction and affects the way we convey our messages, and the way they are received.

At the workshop, we learn the “hat technique” which helps speakers position themselves and their messages in every interaction, so that they can leave their mark in the room. During this process, the participants will get to know the technique, understand its importance and practice it with the tools they will learn in the session.

The participants will experience a significant change in the way they present themselves, allowing for greater success in conveying messages and enhancing their ability to engage, motivate and influence people.

What do you learn?

The ‘Hat Workshop’ was born to meet a real, recurring need our customers have – to improve the way messages are conveyed at important meetings and presentations, both online and offline. The workshop is based on the “4 Hat Model” and teaches the participants about their natural hat, how to use it and how to remain flexible in every meeting.

Why a hat?!

  • What is a hat?
  • The impact our role has at the meeting
  • The importance of our internal position in achieving the goals we have set.

About four hats

  • Familiarization with the different hats by analyzing different speakers.
  • What are the principles of each hat?
  • Distinguishing between the different hats: aboutthe similarities and differences between them.
  • Understanding the hat axis we move on.
  • Finding out the top hat of each participant.
  • Practicing the different hats in different situations.
  • 3-corner methodology: choosing the right hat for the situation and the target audience.
  • Practice meeting based on the 3-corner methodology.

Hats are interchangeable

  • The importance of agility in today’s job market.
  • How do you recognize the need to change the hat?
  • Practice changing our role in the situation according to what we have learned.

Question
What will I get out of it?
Answer
Tools and knowledge that are worth a lot
From the very first minute of the workshop, the participants will practice and experience our storytelling tools and hat methodology. For the best results, the workshop should be based on your specific needs. This will ensure that you leave the workshop with the tools and knowledge that will help you choose the right hat to achieve your goals in any situation you encounter.
Question
But what is this hat?!
Answer
It is the role and the mindset with which we walk into a real or virtual room
The ability to choose which position is the right one to enter a meeting with is an ability that we need to recognize and learn how to work with. Especially in today’s world, when agility is considered one of the keys to success, if we don't know how to adapt ourselves and enter meetings in a "this is me, I only know how to present like this…" mode, for example, we will miss a lot of opportunities in life. After researching the issue with hundreds of clients from different organizations, different countries and different cultures, we discovered that there are four main points of departure in terms of the role and mindset with which we enter the room. We call them hats and they fit in 90% of the cases. There may be other hats, but in 90% of cases you can see a clear tendency towards one of these four hats.
Question
Is it even possible to teach mindset?
Answer
Sure! The hats are like muscles
Either you train and get stronger or you stop and live with what you’ve got. In our workshop you are going to practice a lot and, together with the tools we teach, we believe that you will become better presenters.
Question
I have been to several public speaking workshops, what can you add?
Answer
We’ve also been to a lot of public
speaking workshops and we noticed that when talking about delivering a presentation, there is usually too much emphasis on the physical elements. We are told "we should talk like this, we should stand like this…" but too little attention is paid to our mindset in the situation. We have seen that there is not enough reference to our role in the room, which can change between different people, who present to different audiences, on different topics and to different organizations – each of these parameters can change our entire way of presenting. Therefore, it is important to stop and adapt ourselves to the current situation and be in a mode of choice.
Question
Can we do the workshop as a team?
Answer
Definitely! This is an ideal workshop for teams that want to learn to present better together
If you have meetings where some or all of the team enters together and need to convey messages to clients or internal parties, you can practice your different roles in the workshop and arrive sharper and more coordinated at your next meeting.
Question
How long is the workshop?
Answer
It’s either a one or two-session workshop
If you have meetings where some or all of the team enters together and need to convey messages to clients or internal parties, you can practice the role of each of you during the workshop and arrive sharper and more coordinated at your next meeting.
